January 15, 2017...Bob Brinker was NOT live on Moneytalk today......(comments welcome)
Even though, Bob Brinker never has it announced as such, the program was once again PRETEND-to-be-live with pre-recorded monologues and spliced OLD calls.
So what's up with Bob Brinker? I hope he is not ill because since November 20th, when he was live for two hours, Bob Brinker's Moneytalk has been vast majority of re-runs.
How many years could he get away with redoing old monologues and splicing together old calls while pretending to be live and continuing to advertise Marketimer and Moneytalk on demand?

Haha, I'm getting better at this Honey. I didn't think it was live either (thanks for confirming it) when the lead-in jingle said he's been "Guiding people in money matters for 25 years."
Then, I believe in the first sentence, he said for the zillionth time that he's been doing this since SB Sunday 1986.
Okay, 2017 minus 1986 equals 31 years. LOL, the intro he used is six years old. How old is the rest of the show going to be?
Who needs timely information regarding money? Hahahaha . . . .
The easy way to tell whether it's live is to listen for the phone number. If they never give out the call-in number, then it's not a live show.
John from SF said:
I don't think Brinker is in any way anxious to revise the jingle to "30 years". In my mind 25 years creates an impression of "Experienced" but 30 years makes me think "old fuddy duddy".
Bruce,
Specifically which components of Brinke's advice in his opening monologue to new investors for accumulating wealth did you disagree with ?
I think I remember that answer to the lady about the whole life Ins and the annuity that is on right now.

Just like the borrring newsrag. Same old repackaged crap. Maybe he's on his way to Washington to protest the inauguration with the other snowflakes. I'd chip in and buy him a Donnie Teddy Bear to help comfort him and help him get to sleep at night, but I lost it all and more with the QQQQ. :--)
Apparently Brinker does not consider a holiday as a real day off. We know he was off just two weeks ago on New Years Day but he must just view that as a bonus day and not really a day off. Now he takes his "official" day off on a regular Sunday which he does every month. It's a shame that he spends so much time during the reruns promoting Moneytalk on Demand, where people can go to actually pay money to listen to reruns.
Honeybee,
Sitting here in the catbird seat and listening to the endless "best of" content being broadcast, one must conclude that BB will be retiring soon - my guess is not long after the 2017 Superbowl (Sunday, February 5, 2017).
Bluce summed it up well when he said "Who needs timely information regarding money?"
I truly hope that my facial expression indicates listeners frustration with the endless reruns.

Anon: In case you're new here, the long-standing criticism was about him rerunning old shows and NOT ANNOUNCING IT up front, unlike every other radio host out there.
He is purposely misleading people and this isn't news.
.
Jim and others...
Bob Brinker has taken FIVE weeks off since the last week in November. I think that means has been live only twice, since then - possibly three. We could count.
I think his contract is renewed in the month of January. I'm wondering what's up.
Yes, it sure seems dishonest to hawk re-runs on a re-run, doesn't it?

You did hear it before Mike E .....I had heard it before too.
One of the calls came from five years ago! JeffChristie reminded me of this one posted here.

Re: Donna paying off student loans for her kids. There is a high probability that a parent who co-signs a student loan will end up paying for it. Don't expect the kids to pay. Most of the time the young student overspends for all expenses during the school enrollment, not just using the money for tuition and books. The easy available money is the kid's ticket out of the house and independence from mom and dad. Big bills are racked up, and the student usually overestimates her earnings potential upon finishing the program. If people watch the Suze Orman show they will see these kinds of scenarios all the time. Suze's advice almost every time will be to never ever co sign a student loan.
As for Donna, it is a shame that now she thinks she should pay the loan off. Taking money out of her retirement fund Is not a good idea. Her husbands 40K pension will not be enough going forward.
A big question remaining is: are the kids unable or just unwilling to pay for their obligation? If the answer is that the the kids are trained in something that will never produce much income then I say Donna is up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Too bad, as a co -signer she is on the hook. The 100k she spends on student loans would have been a nice cushion in retirement, after all that's why she put it in a retirement account to begin with.
I believe in Suze's advice don' t co-sign for any loan!

Bob is 100% wrong about sum of the digits loan. No loans are sum of the digits any longer. Those kind of loans went out with buggy whips and mustache wax. I know because I retired from banking after over 37 years with the same bank.
MikeE
I think Brinker is taking off for the MLK holiday tomorrow.
.
Jerrod...LOL!!! Yep, me too.
.
Here's another caller that came from 2012 - part of my Moneytalk Summary that week:
DON'T REFINANCE YOUR HOME AND INVEST IN STOCK MARKET....Caller Douglas from Daly City said he was thinking of refinancing his home and investing in Marketimer model portfolio III. Brinker replied: "I've heard of people that tell people, and I think this is horrific advice....I don't believe in that, and I think that anybody who had done that over the last ten years might be very sorry that they did it. Especially with what's happened to housing values over that period. I think the idea of borrowing on a house to invest in the stock market if probably the worst idea I've ever heard."
da Brink takes the same amount of time-off, almost always on the same schedule, each year.
LOL, is there no end to the boot lickers?
>> No end to the boot lickers?
I didn't catch that the show was reruns and thought what a surprising number of callers are lavishly thanking Mr. Brinker. Now I see why. I guess if you are going to pick ones to replay, those are the ones that sell more newsletters and On-Demand.
No boots licked here, but could Bob be ill?
Moneytalk reruns on demand are available over on the home page.
I find old programs educational. It would be nice if BB played the original program with comments about how he dropped the ball here and got it right there. But that would be WAY too transparent for BB IMO.
Some of the best books on investing are quite old, and they address topics current to the times they were written in...yet it's amazing to see how timeless good investing advice is even when the future turns out quite different than the author expected (as it always does). Examples of classic books in this vein that are fun to "re-listen" to:
Security Analysis (Graham)
The Intelligent Investor (Graham)
Dividends Still Don't Lie (Wright)
Btw, the DOW dividend yield is 2.41%...getting pretty close to the theoretical overvalue 2%. I wonder how close BB thinks we are to the cliff? I'm betting we get another year. What's the vote here?
P a v v y: Maybe Bobby is not well, but one would think he'd have enough integrity to say so instead of "shark attacking" his listeners with yet another unannounced rerun.
Oh wait! I used "Bobby" and "integrity" in the same sentence. Yikes, sorry.
John from SF said:
Well at least Brinker may be listening to Honey. He seems to primary be using re-runs instead of have a substitute host like Tom Vacar when he has time off. So instead of complaining about Tom Vacar we just complain about the re-runs.
.
I just wanted to be sure that some of you didn't misunderstand why there are complaints about Bob Brinker running re-runs.
No one, especially me, resents Brinker being away from Moneytalk. We are aware that he is human, and could very well be sick. Or he may simply want to only work 6 hours a month.
The complaint is that he does not have enough integrity or respect for the audience to announce when the program is re-runs.
He has been doing this for at least 5 years now - after Lynn Jimenez and the other woman (what was her name?) left him.
I think is it deceptive, dishonest and disgusting way to treat people, many of whom kiss his ring and idolize him.
I think Bob Brinker's health is fine. If I remember correctly he took two Sundays off last year in September, one for Labor Day and then another later in the month. I think he schedules his normal monthly Sunday off and then if a major holiday falls during a month then he takes two days off. Since Christmas and New Year fell on Sunday this time I find nothing unusual about his frequent absence recently. I expect him to be live the next three weeks through Super Bowl Sunday Feb.5th.
John from SF said:
@Jim - If memory serves me correctly he has left his show early on Super Bowl Sunday in the past, I presume to watch the game. So even if he starts out live by the third house he may be on tape.
Do you think Brinker pays any more attention to his newsletter than his radio program?
He is the Madoff of financial advice.
Honeybee said......

Why would he wear his ring there? Wouldn't it pinch when he sat down?
Dear Honeybee---Curious. Has Bob ever modified or tweaked his comments due to your criticism..
.
Sheldon....I can only give you my opinion from having listened to Bob Brinker since 1987, and having summarized his program for about 10 years: Yes, many times.
He has also scolded me and tried to set me (or others here) straight - or even put me in my place. :)
AHHH YES! Don Lane and Mr Topes! At least they worked more back then, than brinker does now.
.
Pig...Yep, you got that right. Sheldon must have an inquiring mind. :)
So, Mssr. Pig, how's the QQQ trade going?
Retire and not tell anybody. That advice is from the book "Die Broke"
Bob is milking his last few years on the radio.
Kilgore Trout.....I agree that Brinker is milking this last few years for himself and his son - you know, the IT specialist who has been selling a rinky-dink newsletter that everyone thinks is Brinker's
He even replayed one of the calls yesterday where the caller calls tells Brinker that he subscribes to "both" of his letters. Brinker did not set the record straight.

Rice Delman ALWAYS has taped shows. At the beginning of each hour is an excuse why the show was taped, such as: "Rice was doing his taxes", or "Rice was being interviewed for a cabinet position" ... It is a poor tired attempt at humor and Rice attempts to deceive listeners by pretending to be live. But I know Rice is not live and the phone calls are cherry picked. I agree that Mr. Brinker should be more honest. I just watch your website and tune out if you say it is not live. Thanks for saving me from Mr Brinker's old diatribe.
Suzy: I share your complaints about Rice, in addition to my main complaint that he is ALWAYS SHOUTING. Enough already. It's just one shameless, high-speed infomercial.
On the plus side: He does talk about the stock market, which Bob rarely does anymore unless it went in the direction that he predicted. Also: Rice announces that his shows are taped, and they are usually only a few days old (I think) so at least the comments are timely. Unlike some of Bob's unannounced shows which are YEARS old.
Butch in Las Vegas said:
From his own comments, I think Bob is a big sports fan, maybe even bettor. "May the odds ever be in your favor." Easy to predict when he's not live, usually on big playoff or championship game days, and when NASCAR is in Las Vegas. As he's said, he used to announce sports in college and auto racing as well back in his Commonwealth of Pennsylvania days.
Dave in Barstow said:
My elderly mom uses EFS (Edelman Financial Services) to manage her nest egg. There's a local advisor in addition to Rice, so the layers of fees must be sky high. I don't have the heart to break it down for her. As long as she's happy with the "allowance" they send her each month, and her friendly relationship with the local guy (Prescott, AZ), I just leave well enough alone. He did show her how much she could spend and maintain principle, which is a comfort for her. From family longevity, she'll make 100 years old easily.
Honeybee thanks for your response...
More curiosity---Has Bob scolded you by name???
.
ShelDon....I'm sure you know the answer to that.
Technical Analysis Update!!!
The market has become "drippy" of late.
JC
brinker is 1 in 4 hit the bench!!! each sunday i tune in he organizes every rerun call to lead up to the pitch .. it reminds me of and old rock and roll song I WANNA BE BOBBY"S GIRL just replace girl with FOOL . bob's money precriptiton read 2 books off the recmended list and order on demand in the morning!! that on demand doesn't seem worth it if all he does is repeats!!! signing off this is goober from the trailer state He's jumpin theSHARK!!! 2017 long time caller last time listener
Honeybee,
I was going to rant about our upcoming weather...but then I looked at your upcoming weather and decided to keep my trap shut. Maybe they should rename your city Santa Seattle?
I hope you are doing OK!
.
MadasHELL....I took a look and it seems like the rain is going to begin again tomorrow and just keep on coming down at least through the weekend.
Can't find the exact statistic, but think we have gotten close to two feet of rain so far this year.
I don't mind the rain, but the wind is another story.
Gold is taking off. KGC + 8% today vs GLD + 1.4%
I am expecting a bull market in gold since the new budget doesn't ever balance.
Rand Paul's awesome speech drives the message home.

Kilgore Trout....Please remember the topic of this blog.
You have said your piece and there is no need to expound on it.
A little bad-news-bears goes a long ways.
I am feeling more happy and optimistic that I have for a long time.
Honey: I didn't know that Bob personally trashed you -- I'm assuming "on another website."
How bad was it? Knowing that, I'm sure he combs through this blog very carefully on a regular basis.
Mad as Hell: Seattle has a reputation for getting a lot of rain. After I moved there a long time ago people from other parts of the country would comment on the amount of rain. I learned it only SEEMS like it rains a lot because of overcast conditions, and light, misty rain -- along with the usual downpours. Some people can deal with this and others cannot. Temps are modest. The scenery is fantastic. You can see the Olympic Mountain range from Seattle and Mt. Rainier too.
It actually averages less than 40 inches a year. Many other cities get a lot more rain. Seattle isn't in the top 10 nationwide and the first city in Washington to be listed in the batting line up is Olympia, the state capital, weighing in at number 24.
Seattle was a wonderful place to live when I lived there. Boeing was the big employer and its fortunes influenced the whole region good and bad. The advent of Microsoft really benefitted the whole economy of the area but with it came negatives. Housing prices went up. Traffic got intolerable. The political outlook took a left turn, largely I think, because the many newcomers brought their politics with them.
.
Bluce...I don't recall saying that Bob Brinker personally trashed me.
What are you talking about?
HB: I was just reacting to your post yesterday: "He has also scolded me and tried to set me (or others here) straight - or even put me in my place.:)"
"Personally trashed" are my words, but that was the drift I got from your post.
.
Bluce...I understand.
If I recall correctly, the question was in reference to the radio show. In my answer, I did not mean that anything Brinker said was ever personal beyond what I, or others, have written on this blog.
I don't want to go deeper into the subject than that.....
HB: Good enough!
.
In addition to economic fundamentals and corporate bottom line in terms of earnings, investors need to become sensitive to Trump tweets as it affects the economy and individual companies and its results to wall street movement in both equities and bonds.
Just a thought!
Gabe
.
A choppy market! Bonds reversed from yesterday!
Gabe
Is anyone still paying attention to the Trump tweets?
Recently he tweeted that he would cancel the Lockheed Fighter Plane contract it give it to Boeing.
Boeing stock didnt move.

Speaking of weather events, rain and wind, were you in Seattle during the 1962 Columbus Day Storm? I clearly remember riding that one out in Burien as a youngster.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Day_Storm_of_1962
Good morning, Biker. I moved there in '75 so I was not there during that storm. I don't live there now but the town I live in also got hit hard. My neighborhood is full of reminders: tall Douglas fir trees whose tops were blown out in '62. These trees regrew but the evidence of the storm is there in the form of crooked trunks, forks and multiple tops.

Well, is theTrump rally over for now?
Three horses going this weekend. So far, we’ve run in 30 races with two winners, 2 second and 6 third in 2017. A bit shabby!
Gabe
Would sure like to see G Soros lose his ass!
Just a thought,
Pavlov's Cat
Well, around 12pm EST we can sing, "Thank God and Greyhound He's Gone"
Honeybee,
Did you ship some of that rain down here?
Absolutely a constant, pounding rain today. They forecast 1/4 inch, but I'm sure we are way more than an inch already. Perhaps no rain tomorrow - emphasis on "perhaps."
But then we get the third of three "linked" storms beginning Sunday and continuing through Tuesday. They forecast 3.35 inches on Sunday alone.
Gotta go - I need to see if they sell waders on Amazon!
Well, looking at the glass half-full - no global warming warning for our area for the next few days:
Active Advisory: Flash Flood Warning, High Surf Warning, High Surf Advisory, Coastal Flood Advisory, Areal Flood Advisory, Wind Advisory, Special Statement Active Notice: Public Information Statement.
Time for a few brews tonight while enjoying a rerun of today's Presidential Inauguration. Great to see that we now have a path to progress!
.
Well, is the Trump rally on again? First time in 6 days, the Dow is up! March toward 20,000?
Gabe
Mad: What state do you live in?
Here in the northeast it's been quite mild, only had 4" of snow in all of January (so far).
January 20, 2017 -- it's a great day to be alive!
.
If as reported, we live in a divided country……..how will this impact the stock and bond markets?
Two horses racing today.
Gabe
.
IMO, the country is no more divided than it ever has been.
The only difference is that before the presidential campaign began, only one side had the public voice - at least 80% of it.
